West Seattle Swing Bridge

This bridge was Phase I of the West Seattle Bridge Project. ABKJ led a design team to replace a damaged bascule bridge. The project included a 590′ concrete box girder structure with spans of 375′, 590′, and 375′, and continuous prestressed girder spans up to 185′ long. The High Level Bridge provides 5,600′ of elevated freeway with a vertical clearance of 140′ above the water.
This bridge was Phase II of the West Seattle Bridge Project. ABKJ led a design team to create this concrete double-leaf swing bridge that crosses the Duwamish River and connects Harbor Island to West Seattle. With a span of 480’, it is one of the largest swing bridges in the world.
